Periodontics is a specialty of dentistry that is used to help maintain healthy gums and supporting tooth structure.
At Haysboro Dental Care, we offer a variety of both non-surgical and surgical periodontal treatments for all stages of periodontal disease such as:
- Dental Implants
- Tissue Regeneration
- Flap Surgery
- Scaling and Root Planing
Gingivitis occurs when plaque and bacteria collect on the teeth and gums causing gum irritation, swelling and bleeding.
Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is the leading cause of tooth loss and must be treated as early as possible. When gingivitis is left untreated, the plaque hardens into calculus and caused the gums to pull away from the teeth forming periodontal pockets. This new space between the gums and teeth allows more bacteria and decay to access the tooth roots causing infection, loose teeth, dental abscesses and tooth loss.
Gum disease symptoms may include:
- Shifting teeth
- Bad breath
- Swollen, red, or sensitive gums
- Gums that bleed after or during brushing
- Changes in bite
- Loose teeth
- Gum recession
- Bad taste in mouth
Dr. Chahal recommends regularly scheduled dental checkups and professional teeth cleanings twice a year to help reduce the risk of developing periodontal problems such as gingivitis and gum disease. Through early detection, we can help identify any periodontal concerns so they may be addressed as soon as possible.
